The New World Geebird & Bamby
“”The New World" revisits anonymous places of the 20th century. It is set in a time characterized by the conflict of Modernist and Postmodernist convictions, its influence on later 20th century history, and ultimately, the world we live in today.
On a formal level, this conflict defines the aesthetics of the collection. The interrelation of rational graphic design and anonymous photorealism reflects the contrast of manmade ideals and the acceptance of life in chaos. “The New World" is shaped by an original set of rules, metrics and processes. This enables the revelation of eclectic utopias that, for better or worse, withhold the definition of a photograph."

My Morning commute to work consists of taking a bus to work at the peak of rush-hour. I see the same people on the bus daily and its usually a pretty quiet 15-20 minutes. Everyone is playing candy something or other on their phones or reading the free paper. This morning was a bit different. An older lady probably in her mid 60’s sat beside me. I was looking at a text from Angie showing me her breakfast and this little wisp of a woman next me groans and says “that looks amazing”. I turned to her and smiled and said “I know right!, I’m starving” We started talking..just passing the time etc. She eventually got to the topic of my beard and my tattoos. She asked me if I was a biker, a hippy or trying to make a statement etc etc. She seemed genuinely curious so I didn’t feel she was being judgemental or condescending. I just explained to her its just me, I am not a biker or a hippy, I like collecting tattoos and a big beard just happens to suit my face.
She mulled that over and looked me up and down and said, “I agree, it does suit you”. ” I always wanted a tattoo she says. I’ve even looked on the internet for ideas”. I smile and nod and shake my head…”I do that daily, LOL”. “why don’t you”? She looks at me and smiles, “My kids would lock me up in the loony bin”! I laugh maybe a bit too loud and say “All the more reason to be yourself”. She smiles at me and nods her head and says. “I like your style”. ”I clearly had you pegged all wrong in my head”. “You’re nothing like I thought you would be”. All I could do was smile.
Eventually we just chatted about this and that and everything. My stop was coming up so I pocketed my phone and rang the bell and stood up. I turned to this lovely lady and put out my and and introduced myself. She grabbed my hand and shook it saying. “I’m Claire and I look forward to many more mornings like this one. If not with you with someone else, new and wonderful”.
"Me too" was pretty much all I could get out.
What a wonderful start to the day.
